Getting there and around
Ryanair www.ryanair.com, British Airways www.britishairways.com, Alitalia and KLM fly into Bari from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Manchester and Newcastle airports. From Bari to Monte Sant' Angelo should take around 90 minutes by car. Leave the airport, turning left at the exit and travel up the A14 until you see the turn off for Margherita di Savoia. From there, follow the signs up the S159 to Manfredonia and then Monte Sant' Angelo.
The most scenic route is to fly direct with Ryanair, BA, Alitalia or Lufthansa from Gatwick, Heathrow or Stanstead to Pescara airport. Here you can pick up a car. The coastal route should take around 2-3 hours to Monte Sant' Angelo or Vieste.
Alternatively:
You can fly into Rome, pick up a car and drive. The drive will probably take you around 4-5 hours.
If you don't wish to drive, FS trains run from Foggia to Manfredonia on the south eastern side of the Gargano where it is only 16 Kilometers by bus to Monte Sant' Angelo. SITA Bus Services(0039 0881 773 117) can take you from Manfredonia to Monte Sant' Angelo. Regular trains take an hour to run from Bari to Foggia and 1 hour 40 minutes from Pescara to Foggia.
The use of a car is not absolutely essential, because there are local buses, however, it is highly recommended if wishing to fully explore the coast and forest. Cars can be collected at the airports from reliable companies such as Avis www.avis.com 0870 606 0100 and Hertz www.hertz.com 020 7026 0077
